Researcher guidelines for the Wurzburger Reading Room

Help safeguard our collections and provide a good work environment by observing the following rules.

Registration

  • Researcher are required to register at the front desk upon arrival. An ASU Sun Card or other form of ID is required. Please keep your ID with you while using the reading room.
  • Sign in each time you visit.

Hours

  • The reading room is open by appointment only.
  • Materials in use in the reading room will be collected 15 minutes prior to closing.

Personal belongings

  • Pens, jackets, hats, bags, folders and other personal items must be stored in a locker in the reading room.
  • Laptops and tablets may be used but sleeves and covers should be stored in a locker.
  • Cell phones (on silent) are permitted, but calls may not be answered or made.

Eating and drinking

  • Wash your hands before entering the reading room.
  • Food, gum, candy, drink, tobacco and vaping products are not permitted.

Circulation

Materials are non-circulating and must not be removed from the reading room under any circumstances.

Use of materials

  • Handle materials gently and carefully. Always follow staff instructions.
  • Keep all bound materials in their cradles, and use book weights as instructed. All other materials should remain flat on the table.
  • Materials stored in archival boxes should be viewed one box and one folder at a time. Please keep the documents in the original order of the folder.
  • Items that are enclosed in plastic sleeves must remain in the sleeves. Any photographs or negatives that are not in a plastic sleeve should always be handled with gloves.

Reproduction

  • Access-level digital scans may be made in some cases. Please ask the staff for procedures.
  • A personal camera (no flash) may be used to photograph some collection materials. See the camera use agreement for further details.
  • Researchers assume all responsibility for complying with United States Copyright law.

Citation

Citations for published and unpublished materials should be made in full. ASU's preferred citation is:

[Identification of item], [Collection title], [Identifier], Arizona State University Library.

When you finish

  • Leave materials in the reading room and notify a staff member that you are done.
  • If you need to leave materials on hold for another appointment, let a staff member know.

ASU Library reserves the right to limit the number of items requested at one time and to search researchers' notes and personal belongings before their departure from the reading room.
