As a new academic year begins, ASU Library understands the challenges that faculty, instructors and course designers encounter when preparing their courses. Between juggling multiple course tools, considering the increased cost of materials and worrying about complying with accessibility and copyright standards, it can feel overwhelming to be ready on the first day of classes.

That’s why ASU Library’s Course Resource Services is here to help make your life easier and remove barriers for your students. We are your partner to help you connect your course with free, accessible, library-supported materials.

When you work with the library and use the Library Resource Organizer (LRO) tool integrated within Canvas, you can save your students an average of $237* per course.

“The library is here to help provide your students with day one access to their course materials at no cost,” said Chris Thuenen, manager of Course Resource Services. “Our team believes in equitable access to materials, and our goal is to help remove the financial burden for your students.”

One of the best reasons to work with the library? Accessibility! Our team helps faculty, instructors and course designers guarantee that course content meets accessibility standards and will remediate provided articles and book chapter PDFs if needed.

The library’s expertise and focus on compliance with copyright and accessibility standards ensure that materials are available in Canvas when students need them at any time during their class, without extra clicks or log-ins.

“We’re here to problem-solve and make sure your resources meet ASU standards and help integrate them seamlessly into Canvas,” Thuenen said. “While we can’t just buy an E-book from Amazon or scan a full print book, we will work with you to acquire and license appropriate materials for your course.”

The best time to get started is three to six weeks before the classes begin, but we will work with you anytime, even if it’s last-minute or mid-semester.

“The best thing you can do is create your LRO and then submit your course list, even if you haven't put the final touches on,” Thuenen said. “Submitting it starts the process for our team to review and verify materials. The more time we have, the more our team can do for you.”
